Stupid photography questions of the day

I finally got the batteries I need for my lights, and I want to get back into trying to step up my photography game. I one problem I am having is I can't get happy with using my iPhone on my tripod using the holder that I purchased. I'm using an iPhone 12 mini. When I set up the phone, the "C" portion of the holder covers so much of the screen that I cannot easily get my finger to touch focus to the center of the screeen, AND get access to the button to initiate a shot. I am also using CameraPixels lite.

Is anybody else using a mini iPhone that can offer a work around here? Do I simply frame the shot without zooming in, shoot at maximum file size, let CameraPixels do it's thing, and the crop out the scene to what I want? I REALLY do not enjoy photography, so I am a bit perplexed on the best way to try to get better shots now that I have all the tools.

Is the image stabilization in the new iphones good enough that I do not need a tripod? (I just had a flashback to "The Wild Bunch" "It must be mounted on a tripod!").

The last time I played with this phone and CameraPixel Lite, I was also having a hard time getting good focused shots on a 10 shot sequence. Of the 10 photos, maybe two of them were in focus well enough to use. I don't seem to remember that being a problem when I used my old iPhone SE.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

    Regards,
    Jerry

When I use my little tripod and "C" holder, I have it in the "C" so the back of the phone is against the "C" thus allowing me to see the entire screen.

This is how I have it in my "C" holder.
The camera lens are off to one side so the "C" clip won't cover the lens and I have full access to the screen.

Is this how you have yours in the "C" holder?

I wouldn't rely on the image stabilization function to freeze the image.
Use a tripod. When you focus stack images, it's a good idea to keep the framed image and camera from moving even the tiniest bit.

On my phone, iPhone 13 (not the one in the images) my default photo app has a timer. I watched Jack Burgess use his timer on his iPod, and if there is any kind of movement, the timer allows to the phone and tripod to settle down before the image is taken if there is any movement.
You can see his move after he touches it.

Here's the video by Jack where he goes through the steps to take images.

Starting at 12:00, he's using an iPad and he shows how he accesses and uses the timer and you can see how the boom and holder is shaking a bit, by the time it counts down from 10 to 0, everything has stopped moving.

It's probably responsible for the greatest number of shoddy layouts because no one feels compelled to improve themselves. Meh, good enough...

Well, I did say it was a stupid question. :-( Thanks for straightening that out. Watched the Jack Burgess video about a year ago, forgot all about it. Have to give it another watch for the more finer details. Hope to play a bit this coming weekend.
