Weekend Update for Aug. 9-12, 2024

Please update us what you've done on your model railroad this week/weekend. This weekly thread is intended for us to post snippets about our layout/project progress, rather than be a substitute for our layout-build or project threads. Think of this topic as a mini update on what you've accomplished during the week/weekend. The administrators/moderators will start a new update thread each Friday.

You can link from your layout-build thread or project to your posts in this thread as a part of a more extensive post there, or visa-versa (post to your build thread and link to that post when contributing to this thread).

Click on a post's #number (right-hand end of the post header) to get the URL to that particular post in your browser's address bar. Then just copy and paste.

So fellow RMRers, what have you been up to this week?

Nothing too exciting here. Well, kinda I guess. I spent most of the week drooling over my new (and first) steam loco. Around and around listening and watching. haha As far as the rest of the weekend, its a bust. My other hobby, mainly because of my father, is antique John Deere tractors. We will be visiting a show 4 hrs away in IA on Sat and then participating in a local show on Sun. The local show is probably my favorite as I get to take the tractor to the field and plow. Alot of times these shows also have railroad stuff so there is a chance to get a little railroading in.

Over the past couple of weeks I've been diligently working at extending General Tire on the AC&Y Spur 4 layout. The extension was the original plant of the prototype. I built the addition (lighter colored brick) almost 4 years ago. The white columns are the building pilasters and will be covered with brick paper. It's hard to gauge from the photo but the extension is almost 27" long.

Steve, that is going to be one sweet signature scene when it all comes together.
It does a very good job of showcasing the ability of N scale to allow the ratio of trains to space.
What's the overall length of the combined buildings? Just under 5' ?

Thanks Allen. The building edge to edge length is almost 5'. Overall the scene covers almost 7'. To the left beyond the structures shown will be the powerhouse. Photo documentation of that area is really sparse so I'll be winging it for that build. And yes, the ability to build structures worthy of big time rail service is one of the under appreciated advantages of N scale. Might be the leading reason I've never been tempted to stray.

My sad addition is that I slid a couple joiners away from a joint to file the flextrack rail shorter relieving expansion pressure. The 100 degree heat caused a bit of a kink and is keeping me away from the layout in the garage.
