Weekend Update for Nov. 17-20, 2023

Please update us what you've done on your model railroad this week/weekend. This weekly thread is intended for us to post snippets about our layout/project progress, rather than be a substitute for our layout-build or project threads. Think of this topic as a mini update on what you've accomplished during the week/weekend.
The administrators/moderators will start a new update thread each Friday.

You can link from your layout-build thread or project to your posts in this thread as a part of a more extensive post there, or visa-versa (post to your build thread and link to that post when contributing to this thread).

Click on a post's #number (right-hand end of the post header) to get the URL to that particular post in your browser's address bar. Then just copy and paste.

So fellow RMRers, what have you been up to this week?

I've been a total train nerd or more specifically a railroad car nerd this week researching the various BNFE reefers that I recently received train reports of on the branchline. I can see why there is such a subset of hobbyists "aka rivet counters" with car data information and the research behind it all. Granted this all might be for naught as most of this information comes a few years after my modeling period, but it gives me a rough idea of the different car types that could have ran over the branch just in mechanical reefers alone. As I told my wife last night, with just this list of information I'd have a lot of projects to last me a lifetime scratch building these cars. Right now I'm just aiming for 'close enough".

Awesome idea @craigtownsnd ! Thanks for volunteering the next TOTM! If you can't make it, maybe you can talk Tony Hammes into doing it for you? LOL.
Honestly, I think it would be a decent topic to discuss?

This would make a great topic that would help many of us knuckleheads. I say that because I am just not good at the research. I know this seems like a cop out and reliance on others, but I would hope expanding others knowledge through sharing one's expertise would be acceptable. I would like to think the artistic guy can use the shared knowledge to create a more accurate scene for us all to enjoy. Like a private club puts the best guy in the forefront of a particular effort to maximize the results.

      Everyone wins.

Pretty much cleaned up a few items on the railroad ahead of my next operating session. Added a bill box for the Piggly Wiggly warehouse in Spokane, did some labeling on another bill box for Prairie star milling, and printed another item from a file I purchased from CG trader of track bumpers. I think they came out good, and since I printer 42 of them in two batches, played around a bit with the wash and cure process to get better results, and handle the waste water.

Here is a photo of what came out of the process. The middle bumper is a Peco for comparison. There are attachment plates for the outside rails also for the resin bumpers that I still need to print.

Those bumpers turned out quite well, Jerry. I was immediately struck by how much finer the cross-sections appear. They look great.

I prefer them over the Peco bumper.
