    Live Broadcast from James McNab

    I felt I should repost this in case anyone didn't see his post from a few days ago.
    @everyone

    *********

    We’re gonna try something a little different here on The Hills Line…

    Join me for a livestream broadcast from the layout next Sunday, April 30th starting at 8pm Central Time. I’ll provide the latest progress, a look ahead to future projects, and a special announcement about the return of a former series.

    The stream will be available on The Hills Line’s YouTube channel, and I’m looking forward to sharing and connecting with as many of you as possible. Hope to see you there!

    Rule #1 of model railroading.
    It's probably responsible for the greatest number of shoddy layouts because no one feels compelled to improve themselves. Meh, good enough...

        It should be posted somewhere so you can watch it over and over again Russ?

        Definitely Allen. I found it made me want to get on with my layout and that not everything needs to be hooked up to a points motor.
        I worried over things like 22/24" radius and even 18" on sidings, it's so refreashing to find 'I'm not alone' lol

        Yup, sometimes keeping things simple is better.

      I enjoyed the live look at the Hills Line a lot. The operations are simple, yet not simplistic. Moving at prototypical speeds and spotting cars realistically on a small/medium-sized layout can provide a lot of fun and satisfaction.

      I now want to acquire a ProtoThrottle even more. Watching James perform the brake test on the PT was just too cool!

        Thanks James for taking the time to create this video. Your whole layout is extremely realistic in every detail and the backdrop fits perfectly.
        I can relate with your comment that switching duties are pretty much the same day to day with the only change being the road name on the car. I've been feeling sorry for myself having the same feeling on my small switching layout. But then I remember back when I was a switchman on the N.P. We spotted the same type cars over and over at the same industry. I guess I just need to buy some more cars. Shelf layouts like yours are my favorite design. The only unusual thing I noticed on your layout was somewhat a lack of vehicles. They all seemed to be up on the parking garage. I'm going to take another look at a throttle like yours after watching you.

          Thanks Michael. I detail my logic for the placement of automobiles and other static figures on The Hills Line at https://thehillsline.com/2023/03/18/static/

          Some good points you make, James, especially about vehicles.

          Figures I'm OK with them being static, because there's 1) not many on my N scale layout and 2) they're small and sometimes hard to see. But vehicles are larger and tend to attract more attention. Hmmm. . .a dilemma?🙂
