"The fireman on Extra 3264 takes water at Guadalupe, Calif. in December 1955. Caboose No. 359 carries the markers on this westbound cab hop. Mikado type No. 3264, along with the 3251, were not often used this far south, as for years their regular assignment was on the King City locals which worked north out of San Luis Obispo. Usual power on the Guadalupe Locals and Surf Turns was most often a consolidation or ten-wheeler, but if need be, the roundhouse foreman could assign what he had available as long as there were no restrictions".

SD&AE 103 brings the Guadalupe Local into its namesake town, 24 railroad miles from its starting point at San Luis Obispo. There are no turning facilities at Guadalupe, and engineers usually choose to run tender-first on the outward journey, so that they have a locomotive in front of them when approaching grade crossings in the dark upon the return home.

I'm remembering the enjoyable day I spent in your town back in May of 83. I'm glad you came over to join us all Brian. Your photographs are first rate and I'm looking forward to seeing more in the future.

Thank you Michael. You visited Plymouth 13 months before I arrived in Devonshire as a twenty-five-year-old from Glasgow, in June of 1984.

Lots (70%) to build still, on the Guadalupe Sub, with the usual vast compromise, Next time you're passing, we can have a few pints on the nearby Barbican, and perhaps even run a train or two.

Sure sounds like fun Brian, but at 76 I doubt if I'll ever see the UK again. I'll always have over 800 pics I took from the summer of 83. I'd love to see your layout in person but will settle for more great shots as you move along. Wishing you all the best.

              Rule #1 of model railroading.
It's probably responsible for the greatest number of shoddy layouts because no one feels compelled to improve themselves. Meh, good enough...

I've always enjoyed your photos Brian, mainly because of the stories they tell. Many of a passing parade at a particular location, just what you'd get from a day railfanning. Great to see once again!!
