So far I have not had the needed to ponder about a buying a ST loco yet. I do have a few of their cars.
While they do look very nice, if they were to be sitting next to any of my locos, they would probably make mine look like basic Atlas loco from the 90's. I can also see them being a real pain to weather with all the small detail parts, that is unless they all fall off first?
Sound is not all that important to me, although I just took possession of two BLI NW2's and added a Soundtraxx chip into them both just to play with.
I consider myself a runner/operator and with that being said, close is close enough. Face it, the more you handle something, the more things will get removed, usually not by choice.
While I think what ST is doing for the scale and hobby is very cool, I don't foresee myself getting any fancy locos. But that is what I said about sound as well and now I own two.
What's odd is that the dealer you bought it from didn't say: "Oops, well that one will be going back to ST, I can't sell you a damaged item".
