        Rule #1 of model railroading.
It's probably responsible for the greatest number of shoddy layouts because no one feels compelled to improve themselves. Meh, good enough...

          Haven't done a lot more than work on my coaling bunker. Started with an old Western Railcraft kit from the 70's and have been steadily fussing with it in little bits of time here and there when I can. Here's a couple of video's with it;

That's going to be a nice centerpiece Alan.
Looking forward to seeing the chutes attached.

Today I did a bit of work on the coalchutes, which are multi piece puzzles. Two, or more, will be hinged.

Thanks guys. It is making me think pretty hard, and search hard for a lot of little things to make it right. Challenge is the fun part of this one. Now to find some N scale 24" pulley wheels for the top of the chutes.......

Thanks. I have the underneath lighting going now. Next up is upper level details, install light up there, and then tie that down.

And here's a few pictures of the state of the bunker today, I spent a bit of time figuring out that the kit slider doors were un needed for an NP type coal chute. So those are removed, and a test fitting for the first chute was done. This chute is warped, so don't worry about that. I did figure out that the system I devised will work, so most of the chutes will function, if I can figure out how to do the pulleys and guy wires in such a way they won't get broken.

Thanks. Am going for that early 20's effect, dim yellowish electric lighting in structures.

You might use that elastic string for the cables Alan. Like what's used for telegraph lines.

That last post got hung up a week ago. So, I got it posted up now.

I spent the last week or so taking a break from the bunker and weathered up about 40 or 50 cars. This included metal wheels, black painted the 'hoses' and Bragdon powders. Also finished out the 2511, that I put in service in 2015, my first Loksound install. It has been a faithful runner for a lot of years!

Good idea having a track cleaner pad under the caboose...

Spent a few weeks taking a break from the coal chute, pondering the chutes. Am not entirely happy with the chutes, and pondering/hunting for the wheels. So, did some car weathering, about 47 cars got wheeled, hoses painted, and weathered. Some NP monads erased, they didn't go on boxcars until the late 30's. Then finished the 2511, finally. Paint, weathering, and a few parts. Here's the video of before and after.

What's with the disco lights in the observation car?
Also I was going to ask if that caboose cleaner pad adds appreciably to the drag on the train, but seeing it stick up on the hill kinda answers my question. Still, looks good though.

Hahaha! The 'disco lights' are an experiment I tried with a modification to an "Easy-Peasy" light set. Some flashy LED's that I picked up at the hardware store.
The "Dust Monkeys" work very well. They do add just enough drag to minimize the slinky effect of the MT couplers. I occassionally put a drop of the CRC 6-26 on them to keep the tops of the rails cleaned.

Was a long week, and yesterday was full of moldy furniture in the afternoon. Yuck. But had enough time and energy to do some train running therapy,

Which is a part of the fun!

Haven't had time or parts to do much with the Yellowstone. So, just ran trains! Did some switching, and running. Here's a couple of video's,

First off was a cleaning of ole #4, a older Model Power 2-6-0 I converted to DCC Loksound. It needs a better speaker, but runs much better now. I use the weight on the tender after the cleaning with CRC6-26 until the cleaner/lube is 'set.' About two laps around the layout, usually.

And some switching yesterday, with a few issues. Dirty track, derailments and everything, just so y'all know that the layout doesn't always work the bestest!

Anyway, run some trains and build or fix a few little things if you ain't got the energy to do a bog project!
