Looks like you've got a plan and a lot of work ahead of you Alan. You didn't show the portion of your layout that is directly to the left of the section you're moving in. I would leave the yard section in tact including the switch at the far left and position it over the track to the left if at all possible. I think this whole change will be a better arrangement for you when it's all finished. Thanks for the video.

To the left is the bridges scene, with the 4 through truss span above the low trestle. Your thinking is about where I am, too. The difficult part is what to do on the other end. Am still pondering that.

You know, Alan, noted track planner Byron Henderson proposed a three-level layout in Model Railroad Planning 2008 that had disconnected staging. Not everyone's cup of coffee, for sure, but train elevators and the like are options.

Hadn't considered that, but I may. Also May consider a helix at that end, if I can make it fit. Lots to ponder, because each option results in other changes to the rest of the layout. And future expandability.

Well. I had to get out there and clear off my Tax time work table, and start on doing that stuff. Then I can file for SSA after that is filed. Ain't sure what to think about that sometimes, not as young as I once was!

But, setting there looking at the layout and how it is just sitting, stirred up them creative juices again. Not that it hasn't been on my mind. I did have a project to work on out there this summer, the Trainshed being a safe place to lacquer up a "mini-library" for a gal here in town.

Here's a video outlining the status of things and some of my thoughts. The worst of it is, making one change leads to another, and another..... 🤣

    Any input is appreciated.

Echoing Paul, welcome back. One step at a time. Once you get a mainline running again it will be smooth sailing.

Missed your updates Alan. I'm looking forward to videos of you W-3 mikado in action. A newly repaired main line will re-invigorate you.

As far as SSA, retirement is a wonderful thing. You have the perfect means to ensure you stay busy and engaged.

      Regards,
      Jerry

Thanks guys for the encouragement. Retiring is a distant dream, as I have some responsibilities that will provide some extra income for trains and such!

Beginning to get some glimmers of an idea for a fix. Easily done and no hidden track.....updates as it gestates!

And here's a bit of an update. I just finished uploading this video of the yard lowering this morning as I had a piece of cherry pie for second breakfast! Woke up to freezing rain on top of old snow and figured the Lord was telling me to take a day off and go nowhere. So, here we go!

That looks like a lot of work! I hope it all goes well Alan.

It went well today, got a bit more tied in and a slow start on the loop. Anxious to get a train rolling again!

Excellent, it will be great to see trains running again.

It went well, now for other crisis work to get done, so as I can get back to railroading!

Well, it has been a while. I spent some time yesterday clearing out accumulated "Debris" from in the Trainshed. Now to organize a bit of the good stuff, and then work on clearing out the layout area.

I have an actual plan for the rerouting of the mainline, halfway executed. But to finish, I have to clear out the tax paperwork, other miscellaneous stuff collected over the last year, and then get to work fixing it up.

At the same time, we are working on planning where to put the Trainshed upon relocating it out to the country place. Oh, we have acquired a place 25 some miles out of town along the old NP mainline up Beaver Hill. Quiet and out of the way. This video is of the area around it and including the house and outbuildings.

              😂🤣

As a creative exercise, (I am NOT planning on a modernized road, ) it would be neat to get some input on what a 1960-80's NP&BH boxcar might look like. A generic 50' plug door type using similar lettering to what I have in the 1920's era.

My thought was a black boxcar with a C&NW yellow plug door. With white lettering? But any input is good.

Here's a pic of what the 20's era boxcars have,

Sorry Alan, I got sidetracked with the layout and forgot to respond, but that's pretty much what I was going to suggest, boxcar red or a darker green than BN with with lettering.

Do you still have any of those decals left?

Sure, I could do that. I'll send you a PM.

So, this morning it seemed like a good idea to just see if the layout was still functional. Here we go....

It is absolutely something I should be making more time for. F250 to finish up, then a few other things to prep for moving the Trainshed.....

So, still at the old location, but made time to do a bit of tidying up, and some start on the repair work needed for the rebuild. The loop is the next project.

Yup. Next step is getting that curve right! For good running and no string lining of trains, that is always a tension builder.

Broad curves, always better visually and operationally. I had a had lesson in that recently and a thing called buffer lock.

Yeah, the curve will be broad, Been busy doing pre-winter prep here. Roof on a shed, firewood to cut, fence to fix and a pickup to put back together. The engine is opened up, gotta do that today. when I get back to the layout, you can bet there will be a nice bit of track there, smooth curves and a little less grade.
